Are COVID-19 related cancellations covered under this policy?
*May 10, 2023 Update - Bookings made after May 10, 2023 are no longer covered under this policy - the Host cancel policy will apply.*
Am I eligible for a natural disaster cancellation credit?
If a booking needs to be canceled due to a natural disaster, then the Hipcamper that made the booking is eligible to collect a full Hipcash credit including the Hipcamp service fee if all details below are true:
- The Hipcamper has requested a credit within 14 days of their trip's check out date.
-
The natural disaster is an active issue during the trip dates in the specific area where the Hipcamp is located.
- This policy does not apply to disasters that are in areas a Hipcamper may have to travel through to reach their destination.
- This policy does not apply to air quality or spreading smoke in an area far away from the active disaster.
- The Hipcamper can provide documentation such as a travel restriction or severe weather advisory or severe weather warning from the National Weather Service for the area that the Hipcamp is located. Please note that a severe weather 'watch' is not severe enough to have this policy take effect. You can review the National Weather Service guidelines we are aligning this policy to here. Similar documentation is required for trips in other countries.
- The weather event is not typical for the region. For instance, winter storms, tropical storms, cyclones, typhoons, or hurricanes occurring in locations where they are known to happen are not a reason to leverage this policy.
Please note that non-severe storms or non-severe temperatures do not fall under our Natural Disaster Policy, the Host cancel policy will apply. If you do not want to go on a trip because of the present conditions, please submit a refund request via your Trip page for your Host to review. There is more information for how to submit a refund request here: What if I want a refund for my trip?
How does this impact Hosts?
The Host will not collect any money for these bookings, regardless of their chosen cancellation policy. Our hope is that by providing a full Hipcash credit, Hipcampers will be able to postpone their trip and visit that Host at a later date.
