We want to help you stay informed when there’s a safety event that may affect your Hipcamp trip.
For trips in New South Wales, we monitor public safety alerts from the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) and NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS). If an alert may impact your trip, we’ll share the official information with you if you’re currently staying at a Hipcamp or have a trip starting in the next 24–48 hours, so you can understand what’s happening and make informed decisions about your plans.
What should I do if I receive an alert?
Check the official emergency alert linked in the email and follow any advice from emergency services.
If you’re concerned about your stay or have questions about how the alert may affect you, send your Host a Hipcamp Message. They’re best placed to help you understand local conditions and agree on a plan for your booking.
Can I still go on my trip if I receive an alert?
Receiving a safety alert doesn’t necessarily mean you need to cancel your trip. Check the official alert linked in the email and follow any advice from emergency services.
If you’re concerned about your trip, reach out to your Host first to discuss the situation and agree on a plan. If your Host decides to cancel the booking, you’ll receive a full refund.
If you decide to cancel, your Host’s cancellation policy will still apply. You may be eligible for a credit under Hipcamp’s Natural Disaster Policy if the circumstances meet the policy requirements. Receiving an alert on its own doesn’t necessarily mean you’re eligible for a credit under Hipcamp’s Natural Disaster Policy.
