What should I do if a Hipcamper asks to change their trip?
If a Hipcamper contacts you about changing the dates of their stay, the best option is to direct them to use the “Modify Trip” button on their Trips page. This is the easiest and fastest way for them to submit a formal request.

What happens next depends on how your listing is set up:
✅ 1. You use Instant Book
- The camper’s new dates are updated automatically once they confirm the change.
- You’ll receive a notification with the updated trip details.
- Your calendar and payout are updated immediately—no need for approval.
⏳ 2. You use Request to Book
- You’ll receive a modification request to approve or decline.
- You’ll be notified by email, SMS, and app notification (if you have the app).
- You'll be able to respond to the request via any of these alerts
- You’ll have 24 hours to respond—if you decline or don’t respond, the original reservation remains unchanged.
- You’ll see the updated payout and trip details before accepting.
Modifications do not affect your response time or response rate.
🛠️ 3. Your listing was created by Hipcamp (and you haven’t verified it yet)
- The camper won’t see a “Modify Trip” option—instead, they’ll be directed to contact Hipcamp Support.
- Our team will then reach out to you directly to confirm availability for the new dates.
- If you’re able to accommodate the change, we’ll handle the update on your behalf and notify the camper.
- You’ll receive the revised booking details and don’t need to take any further action.

What about your cancellation policy?
Your existing cancellation policy still applies to all trip changes. If a camper tries to modify their trip inside your non-refundable window, they may be charged for both the original and new dates (any additional charges are clearly displayed to Hipcampers).
Example: A camper with a trip starting tomorrow wants to move it to next weekend. If you have a Strict cancellation policy (7-day notice), they’ll be charged for the original nights and again for the new ones.
You're always welcome to use the refund tool in your calendar to refund any additional charges at your discretion.
