At Hipcamp, we strive to create positive experiences for both Hosts and Hipcampers, but we understand that issues can sometimes arise. If you have a bad experience with a camper, we’re here to support you.
How Hipcamp Helps Prevent Issues Before They Happen
We take proactive steps to help prevent negative experiences, including:
- Clear Rules & Guidelines: Every Hipcamper agrees to follow the rules and guidelines you set when they book a stay at your property. We recommend making your rules clear and easy to understand.
- Leave No Trace Principles: Hipcampers review the Leave No Trace principles at checkout, reinforcing our community values and expectations for responsible camping.
- Hipcamper Standards: Campers are expected to follow our Hipcamper Standards. If they don’t, we take action.
What to Do If You Have an Issue with a Camper
If a camper does not follow your rules or behaves inappropriately, here’s what you can do:
-
Address the Issue Directly (if safe to do so)
If the issue is minor and you feel comfortable, politely remind the camper of your rules and expectations. Often, a simple conversation can resolve misunderstandings. -
Report the Camper to Hipcamp Support
If a camper violates your rules, leaves a mess, or behaves disrespectfully, contact Hipcamp Support with details of what happened and the booking number. Our team will investigate and take appropriate action, which may include warnings or banning the camper from the platform. -
Leave a Review
You can leave a review of the Hipcamper within 14 days of their stay. Reviews are part of a "double-blind" system, meaning neither party can see the other’s review until both are submitted (or the review period ends). This ensures fairness and transparency. Learn more: How do I review a Hipcamper?
What Actions Does Hipcamp Take?
- Clear Feedback – If a camper is flagged for violating Hipcamp’s standards or a Host’s rules, they will receive a warning and guidance on how to improve.
- Account Restrictions – Repeated or serious violations may lead to temporary or permanent bans from the platform.
- Support for Hosts – Our team is available to help guide you through any issues and ensure your concerns are addressed.
The Good News: Most Hipcampers Are Respectful!
Fortunately, negative experiences with Hipcampers are extremely rare. In fact, many Hosts say that one of the reasons they love Hipcamp is the quality of guests they receive. Since Hipcamp is a platform specifically designed for camping and glamping stays, Hipcampers tend to be more experienced with the outdoors and have a greater respect for nature and camping etiquette. This results in far fewer issues compared to platforms that focus on general holiday rentals, B&Bs, or urban stays.
If you ever need assistance, Hipcamp Support is here to help. Your experience as a Host is our priority, and we appreciate the amazing outdoor spaces you share with the Hipcamp community!
