As a result of the new Sharing Economy Reporting Regime (SERR), we have a legal obligation to report certain booking information about our Hosts with properties in Australia to the Australian Taxation Office.
What is SERR and what does it mean for me?
SERR is a reporting regime that requires operators of electronic distribution platforms (EDP) to collect, verify, and report certain transactions to the Australian Taxation Office.
Since Hipcamp operates in Australia and is considered an EDP, we’re obligated to collect, verify, and report certain booking related information about our partners who conduct business in Australia through our platform, as well as business transactions made on our platform. The data collected for SERR will be reported to the Australian Taxation Office bi-annually for the 6 month periods ending June 30 and Dec 31, with those reports due on July 31 and January 31, respectively.
Who is included within the scope of SERR?
Hosts with properties in Australia or one of its external territories are within the scope of SERR, regardless of whether their primary address is in or outside of Australia.
How do we collect and share SERR data?
We collect this information via our secure payout provider, Stripe. It’s likely that through our onboarding process you have already provided all necessary information to receive payouts via Stripe, but if there are any required fields that still need to be filled out, it will be clear what needs to be added in the Payouts section of your Host Dashboard.
