We know that plans change—so whether you're adding a few more people to the trip or someone can no longer come, it’s easy to update your group size directly from your Trips page.
This guide walks you through how to make changes, what costs may apply, and what to do if the Modify Trip button isn’t available. It covers:

How group size and pricing works
Every Unit on Hipcamp has a nightly base price with a maximum group size that a Host sets. For example, a Host may set their base price at £50 per night, for up to 4 Hipcampers.
Some Hosts also allow additional people over the max group size for an additional cost. Additional people can be added at the time of checkout, and modified at any time after booking up until your trip's start date.
If changing the number of additional people after you make your booking, your card will be charged the "additional person cost" - the price per extra person per night, plus a small service fee.
Removing additional people will result in a full refund of the "additional person cost", and associated service fees.
How to edit the number of campers on your booking
🖥️ On desktop
- Log in to your Hipcamp account
- Navigate to the Trips page
- Click the Trip Page button on the booking you're looking to update
- Click the Modify trip button
- A pop-up will appear where you can manage your group size
- Update the group size using the + or - and click Review
- If an additional charge applies, your receipt will update accordingly before confirming
- Click Confirm charge to finalize the change
🌐 On a mobile browser
- Log in to your Hipcamp account on your mobile device
- Tap the 3 horizontal lines at the top left of the page
- Select Trips
- Find the trip you'd like to update and tap Trips page
- Scroll and select the Modify trip button
- Update the group size using the + or - and click Review
- If an additional charge applies, your receipt will update accordingly before confirming
- Click Confirm charge to finalize the change
📱On the app
- Launch the Hipcamp app
- Tap on the Trips icon at the bottom of the screen to open your Trips page
- Select the booking you would like to modify
- Scroll down until you see Manage reservation
- Click Modify Trip
- Update the group size using the + or - and click Review at the bottom
- If an additional charge applies, your receipt will update accordingly before confirming
- If everything is correct, click Submit
What to do if you don’t see a “Modify Trip” button
There are a couple of reasons you might not see the Modify Trip option on your Trips page. Either way, we can help—the next step just depends on how your booking was made.
If your booking included a discount or promo code:
The Modify Trip tool isn’t available yet for these bookings. But you can still make changes:
- Message your Host via Hipcamp to confirm your new group size.
- Once your Host has approved, contact Hipcamp Support and we’ll adjust the booking for you.
If your booking was placed through one of our campground partners:
These bookings aren’t editable through Hipcamp just yet. But no worries—you’ll see a link on your Trips page that says "contact Hipcamp Support". Fill it out the form and our team will update your trip details and confirm the changes.
