What is Hipcamp Donations?
Hipcamp Donations is an optional feature that lets campers support land-focused nonprofits and community organizations connected to the places they visit. After leaving a review of your trip, you may see a small prompt inviting you to learn more or make an optional contribution.
This is completely optional and designed only for Hosts who support conservation, outdoor education, wildlife rehabilitation, or similar missions.
Why am I seeing a donation prompt after my review?
You’re seeing it because you gave your Host a positive review. Some Hosts run or partner with nonprofit organizations, and this is a simple way for campers who feel inspired by their stay to learn more or give back if they want to.
There is no pressure to donate—this feature appears only after your stay is already complete.
Do I have to donate?
No. Donations are entirely optional. You can ignore the message and continue without taking any action.
Does Hipcamp process or collect the donation?
No. All donations are made on the nonprofit’s own external website.
Hipcamp does not:
- Handle your payment information
- Take a fee
- Track or issue donation receipts
Everything is managed directly by the organization you choose to support.
Will I receive a tax receipt for my donation?
If the organization you donate to is eligible to issue tax receipts, they will provide it directly. Hipcamp does not issue tax receipts for donations.
Why is Hipcamp offering this feature?
Many of the places listed on Hipcamp are cared for by people and organizations doing meaningful work—restoring ecosystems, supporting wildlife, educating kids, or protecting land for future generations.
Hipcamp Donations gives campers a simple, optional way to support that work if they choose to.
Who can I contact if I have questions?
If you have questions about your stay or review, you can contact Hipcamp Support anytime. If you have questions about a donation itself, the organization’s website is the best place to reach out directly.
