As a Host, you can outline specific penalties for breaking rules in your Site rules, but Hipcamp can't charge a camper's credit card to cover a fine without their authorization.
Hipcamp has your back if property is damaged
Hipcamp does guarantee reimbursement for clearly documented property damage in line with our Property Protection Plan. If a camper refuses to pay for Host property that has been broken, Hipcamp will step in to cover the cost in line with the terms and exclusions of the Property Protection Plan. However, this reimbursement guarantee does not extend to fines or additional cleaning fees that Hosts have listed in their rules.
What should I do if I'm hoping to collect a fine or additional cleaning fee?
First, reach out to your camper via Hipcamp Messages to explain the situation and that there is a fine outlined in your rules that you are requesting they pay because of their actions.
If they agree to the fine via Hipcamp Messages, file a support ticket via the chatbot by asking the bot to request reimbursement from a camper. The Support Team can then charge their credit card and pay you out manually.
If the camper doesn't reply or agree to the fine, you can still file the support ticket the same way, and we can reach out to them on your behalf to remind them of the Hipcamper Standards and to take further action if appropriate (ex: account suspension).
They still will need to agree to your fine before we can charge their credit card, but it's important that they get clear feedback on their behavior, what is expected of them as a Hipcamp community member, and for us to ensure that there aren't future related problems.
