The Sensible Weather Guarantee is an optional purchase available during checkout that can proactively reimburse up to 100% of the daily cost of your Hipcamp stay. Reimbursements are made automatically, with no cancellations or claims required.
What types of weather does the Weather Guarantee cover?
The Weather Guarantee covers precipitation or high temperatures determined by the official National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) forecast for each day of your camping trip. Don’t worry, you’ll be notified if your stay qualifies for reimbursement.
Can I get coverage for both precipitation and high temperatures?
No, your Weather Guarantee will cover precipitation OR high temperatures. Which is covered will be clearly stated during checkout.
What are the terms of my Weather Guarantee?
The duration of guaranteed good weather is dynamic based on the dates and location of your Hipcamp stay, so the terms of your trip’s specific guarantee will be clearly stated during checkout. You’ll receive a reimbursement from Sensible Weather (our third-party provider) if the forecasted weather each day of your trip exceeds the conditions stated in your Weather Guarantee.
Do I need to submit a claim?
No, you don’t need to submit a claim. When the forecasted weather exceeds the weather conditions stated in your Weather Guarantee, you’ll receive a text message and email to start the reimbursement process with Sensible. No complex claims process or proof of loss is required.
Who pays for the reimbursement?
All reimbursements are paid by Sensible Weather. Hipcamp isn’t liable for any Weather Guarantee reimbursements.
How much reimbursement do I receive with a Weather Guarantee?
Weather Guarantee reimbursement amounts vary and are defined at the time of purchasing your Weather Guarantee. You’re eligible to receive a daily reimbursement equal to the average daily cost of the qualifying reservation, meaning you might receive multiple reimbursements throughout your trip that together equal your entire trip cost.
How long does it take to receive my reimbursement?
Sensible will send you an email and a text message on the morning of each day you are eligible for a reimbursement. You may choose to receive your payout via PayPal or ACH. Processing times depend on your bank and chosen reimbursement method, but funds typically arrive within 3 to 5 business days.
Can I still go on my Hipcamp trip if I get a reimbursement?
Yes! The Weather Guarantee doesn’t result in any cancellation of your trip or experience. You can continue with your camping plans despite the weather, even if you get a reimbursement.
What’s the difference between a Weather Guarantee and insurance?
Weather Guarantees aren’t insurance products. Traditional travel insurance policies cover catastrophic events that lead to cancellations. While insurance products typically cover cancellation reasons leading up to a trip (such as sickness or injury), Sensible guarantees specific weather during the dates of your trip, protecting you in the event that the forecast doesn’t align with the guaranteed conditions.
How do I know if I’m getting reimbursed?
You’ll be notified by text and email on the morning of each day you are eligible for a reimbursement. No claims are necessary, and you can contact Sensible Weather directly with questions.

When you book a qualifying Hipcamp stay, you’ll have the option to add a Weather Guarantee to your booking for a nominal fee. If there’s forecasted weather that triggers your Weather Guarantee during your stay, you’ll automatically get money back. Fees and reimbursement amounts vary depending on your booking, and specific terms will be laid out for you to review before purchasing.

Can I go back and add the Weather Guarantee to future bookings I’ve already made?
Right now, the Weather Guarantee is only available to purchase with new Hipcamp bookings.
Can I cancel the Weather Guarantee coverage?
If you cancel your booking before 8am (local time to your Hipcamp property) on your trip check-in date, the Weather Guarantee will be canceled and the full coverage amount will be automatically refunded.
Should I cancel my Hipcamp reservation if bad weather is forecasted?
No, you only get reimbursed for forecasted rain or high temperatures if you keep your Hipcamp reservation. To use your Weather Guarantee, do not cancel your reservation.
What happens to the Weather Guarantee if I modify a future trip?
If you modify a future trip’s dates, designated site, or headcount, the Weather Guarantee will be automatically canceled and refunded. There may be an option in the future to repurchase it while modifying a trip, but there’s currently no way to maintain your coverage without starting a new booking.
What happens to the Weather Guarantee if I modify my trip while I’m currently on it?
The Weather Guarantee is locked in and is not refundable after a trip has started.
Is this like cancellation insurance?
No, with the Weather Guarantee you don’t need to cancel the trip to be reimbursed, and you don’t have to file any claims. You’ll be reimbursed automatically even if you choose to power through the rain. To use your Weather Guarantee, do not cancel your reservation.
