Make sure your vehicle is the right fit for a specific Hipcamp
When going on any trip, we recommend that you be aware of your vehicle's limits and make sure to not drive anywhere that could result in damage to your car. You are solely responsible for damage that occurs to your car while driving.
Check the listing and read the Host's rules in the checkout process carefully before you make a booking to understand if 4WD or high clearance is required to visit their property, and only proceed if your vehicle can meet any stated requirements. If you aren't sure, you can always ask the Host before making a booking.
What if my car is damaged while driving?
If you're driving to a Hipcamp or on a Hipcamp property and you get a flat tire, body damage, or any other vehicular damage, we recommend that you work with your personal insurance to reach a resolution. As stated above, you are solely responsible for your vehicle while driving it, and we recommend you know your vehicle's limits. Please also note that Hipcamp's Host liability insurance does not cover anyone operating motor vehicles.
What if my car is damaged while parked?
Please use your own good judgement with where you park your car, as you are solely responsible for your car and all items within it while it is parked.
Be aware of specific hazards that could damage your vehicle and avoid parking in these areas. For instance, avoid parking under palm trees with falling coconuts in Hawaii or consider whether parking in a cow pasture in Texas where animals could scratch your car is the right choice for you and your vehicle. Please also be aware of the risk of vandalism by a third party, you can ask your Host for their advice on the area you are parking in to better understand this risk.
For all of the above situations, we recommend that you work with your own insurance to reach a resolution.
If your car is damaged while being parked on a Host's property and it's a situation where the Host may be liable due to the specific circumstance, please file a support ticket as soon as possible so that we can work with you and the Host to reach a resolution.
