The annual Hipcamp Awards celebrate our Hipcamp Hosts and their properties by allowing the Hipcamp community to vote for the very best listings across the United States and Australia.
What are this year's categories?
In addition to state races (i.e., Best Hipcamp in Iowa; Best Hipcamp in New South Wales), our community can also vote in the following nationwide categories:
-
Best Hipcamp Tent Sites in the U.S.
-
Best Hipcamp Cabins in the U.S.
-
Best Hipcamp Glamping in the U.S.
-
Best Hipcamp RV Spots in the U.S.
-
Best Hipcamp Treehouses in the U.S.
-
Best Hipcamp Tent Site in Australia
-
Best Hipcamp Cabin in Australia
-
Best Hipcamp Glamping in Australia
-
Best Hipcamp Caravan Spot in Australia
State races include all listing types (tent sites, cabins, RV spots, etc.), while the nationwide categories include only nominees with the specifically named listing type from all states.
How are Hipcamp Award nominees determined?
Hipcamp Hosts maintain an incredibly high level of quality when it comes to the experiences they provide Hipcampers. Because of this, we use a set of qualifying criteria to determine our qualifying pool of nominations per category. In order to qualify as a potential nominee, a listing must:
- Have been live and unpaused as of Nov. 18, 2020
- Hold a lifetime Hipcamper recommend rate at or above 95%
- Have received 3 or more completed bookings between May and October 2020
- Be the Host’s most-booked listing in its respective category, if the Host has multiple listings that meet the above
The following limits are then put in place to further narrow down the number of nominees allowed per category, with qualifiers that have the most bookings during the time period designated above earning a nominee spot.
- If a category has more than 50 qualified listings, nominees are capped at 20 based on the factors above.
- If a category has fewer than 50 qualified listings, nominees are capped at 10 based on the factors above.
How and when will I find out if my listing is a nominee?
Nominees are announced on Thursday, Nov. 19, on the respective Best Hipcamps to Visit landing pages. All Hosts with nominated listings will be informed via email. Make sure your inbox is set to accept emails from Hipcamp.
How are Hipcamp Awards calculated?
The listing in each category that receives the most valid votes between Thursday, Nov. 19, and Sunday, Dec. 20, will be declared the 1st place winner.
How and when will I find out if my listing is an award winner?
Winners are announced on Wednesday, December 23, on the respective best Hipcamps to Visit landing pages. All winners will also be informed via email (make sure your inbox is set to accept emails from Hipcamp) and will receive a ‘Best of 2021’ badge on their winning listing page.
If a Host has more than one listing, can they receive multiple nominations?
Although many Hosts have multiple listings (and we love this!), we limited each property to one nominated listing per category. This way, more hosts could make the nomination lists. One listing per host per category. A Host’s tent site listing may be nominated for the Best Hipcamp in Arkansas, while their treehouse listing may be nominated for Best Treehouse.
Who is eligible to vote?
Anyone with a unique, valid Hipcamp account can vote in the Hipcamp Awards.
How often can I vote?
It’s possible to vote for an individual Hipcamp listing once per day every day between Thursday, November 19, and Sunday, December 20. There is no limit to the number of Hipcamp listings you can vote for each day.
When does the voting begin and end?
Voting opens on Thursday, November 19, and closes on Sunday, December 20, at midnight PST (Monday, 21 Dec., at 6:59pm AEDT). Winners will be announced on Wednesday, December 23.
My listing was nominated last year, but it’s not on this year’s list. What happened?
Hipcamp is continuing to grow, with new Hosts joining every day. Because this year’s nominees were chosen based on 2020 bookings and review data, nominees may be different than those who qualified in 2019.
Last year’s awards were for the Best of 2019. Now you’re doing Best Hipcamps to Visit in 2021. What about 2020?
Given the timing of our annual Hipcamp Awards, we’ve determined that it’s best to consider the winning listings to be the Best Hipcamps for the upcoming year, rather than the one that is soon ending. This means winners will be promoted all year long, and Hipcampers will continue to save these listings to book throughout the new year!
We’re so thankful to have all of our Hipcamp Hosts as part of our community, and we can’t wait to see who you all choose as the Best Hipcamps to Visit in 2021.
