What are the Hipcamp Awards?
The annual Hipcamp Awards celebrate our top-performing Hipcamp Hosts and their properties—those that provide magical experiences for Hipcampers time and time again. The awards are given out across the United States, Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
How are Hipcamp Award winners determined?
Hipcamp Hosts maintain an incredibly high level of quality when it comes to the experiences they provide Hipcampers. Because of this, we use a set of qualifying criteria to determine our winners per category each year. In order to qualify for a 2023 Hipcamp Award, a property must:
- Have been live and unpaused as of January, 1, 2023
- Have held an average property-wide Hipcamper recommend rate for 2022 at or above 95%
- Have received 3 or more completed bookings between January 1 and December 31, 2022
Qualifications are then calculated further, considering thousands of Hipcamper reviews and ratings, the number of completed bookings, and additional factors that indicate a great Hipcamper experience. The following is used to determine winners across each category:
- First, second, and third place winners are crowned, in addition to up to 12 additional finalists.
- Weighted rankings are applied, utilizing data from 2022 bookings only. Property-wide recommendation rates, number of bookings, and occupancy rates are combined to form a weighted rank that places winners and finalists across categories. Earnings are not included to avoid skewing against higher-priced sites.
What happened to voting?
We heard your feedback and took a data-driven approach to the 2023 Hipcamp Awards. By utilizing 2022 bookings data, we aim to eliminate bias and instead truly reward Hosts who provided the best experiences for their Hipcampers. WIthout the need to collect votes, Hosts can focus on what they do best! Also new this year: Property-level winners, meaning entire properties are named the best Hipcamps to visit, not just individual listings.
How and when will I find out if my Hipcamp is an award winner?
Winners are announced on Monday, March 27, 2023 (Tuesday, 28 March in Australia), right at the start of the northern hemisphere’s camping season. All winning Hosts will be notified via email—make sure your inbox is set to accept emails from Hipcamp.
What about winner badges?
Stay tuned—all winning Hipcamp properties will receive a ‘Best of 2023’ badge on their property page this spring. In the meantime, Hipcamp will promote winners to our entire global community of Hipcampers via email, social media, and more.
Where are my badges from years past?
In addition to the 2023 badges, we’re also working on bringing past Hipcamp Award badges back! We’ll be in touch once you can again see your full trophy case.
If a Host has more than one listing, can they receive multiple nominations?
This year, we’re awarding property-level winners, meaning entire properties are named the best Hipcamps to visit, not just individual listings. An entire Hipcamp property may win Best Hipcamp in Arkansas in addition to being named Hipcamp Treehouse to Visit in 2023 for their individual treehouse listing, even if they have other accommodation types on their land.
My listing was a finalist last year, but it’s not on this year’s list. What happened?
Hipcamp is continuing to grow, with new Hosts joining every day. Because this year’s winners were crowned based entirely on 2022 bookings and review data, winners may be different from those who placed in 2022.
We’re so thankful to have all of our Hipcamp Hosts as part of our community, and we’re so proud of all Hosts who provide unforgettable experiences all year long!
