Hipcamp Hosts
As a Host, your earnings may be subject to U.S. income taxes. We expect all Hosts to comply with the tax regulations in your area, and encourage you to consult a tax professional if you need advice on reporting your income.
1099-K: If your payouts have totaled more than $20,000 and you have received over 200 Hipcamp bookings in a calendar year, Hipcamp will issue you a 1099-K. We’ll provide this form to you via email or mail. If you think you met this threshold but didn't get a form from us, please file a support ticket by February 15, 2022 to get assistance from our Support Team.
1099-MISC: Hipcamp processes payments on your behalf and you as a Host are not a contractor, so we do not issue 1099-MISC forms for hosting on our platform. Because we know it would be a helpful resource, we may begin providing summary documents by default in the future although this is not required. In the meantime, if you'd like a copy of all money transfers made to you through Hipcamp for your own records, reach out to support@hipcamp.com and we can send that your way at any time.
IRS regulations require that we collect a valid W-9 in a timely manner for reporting incomes. If you fail to provide the requested information in a timely manner, Hipcamp reserves the right to temporarily deactivate your listing.
Hipcamp Photographers and Content Contributors
As a Hipcamp contributor, whether that be to the Field Scout program or to the journal, your contributions are subject to 1099-MISC reporting to the IRS. All income $600 or above will warrant us filing a 1099-MISC form, and your W-9 information will be collected during onboarding.
