Set yourself up for success to avoid damage
Accidents happen, but thinking ahead to avoid them can go a long way. Be aware of your environment and be sure to set up camp away from any potential problems. For instance, we recommend that campers don't set up camp in the same area as livestock and that they avoid parking under trees that could drop pinecones, branches, or coconuts. If there are free roaming animals on the property (wild or domestic), it's recommended that food is not stored in tents.
We also expect Hosts to to minimize hazards on their property and help create a smooth arrival experience to set campers up for success when visiting their Hipcamps.
What if my property is damaged by the Host, their employees, family, or one of their animals?
If an accident happens that a Host is clearly liable for, the camper should be reimbursed for their damaged property. An example of this could be damage to a tent from a free roaming dog.
If you need help from the Support Team to reach a resolution, please file a support ticket via the chatbot (Support button on the bottom right of the page).
We recommend all communication related to this damage is documented via Hipcamp Messages so that the Support Team can help out most effectively.
What if my property is damaged by the environment?
If damage happens because of the weather, wild animals, or anything else that is outside of the Host's control, the camper is solely responsible for their damaged property. We recommend that campers consider seeking insurance for camping gear and other personal property that they can lean on in the event of their property being damaged by the environment.
What if my property is damaged by a third party?
If damage happens to camper property because of a third party person that is not related to the Hicpcamp booking in question, then we recommend that a police report is filed if necessary and that reimbursement from this third party is pursued.
If the damage happened because of another Hipcamper, you are also welcome to file a support ticket to get assistance with a resolution if needed since Hipcamp will have their contact information.
