Many factors contribute to your property’s position in our search results, and we're always tweaking the formula to help connect you with the right Hipcampers.
Please note that if you are searching for your own listing on Hipcamp, you may have to click through a few pages of results. As you zoom in on your region on the map, your property will get closer to the top of our search results because you’re narrowing the distance to your property on the map. This is typically how Hipcampers use our search - with a particular location in mind.
The search algorithm is complex and takes lots of different information into account when ranking listings. Here are some of the factors (but not an exhaustive list) that are used to rank search results:
- Camp freshness: We'll give your listing a tiny rank boost if it's new. This helps give all listings an equal shot at getting booked :)
- Location of search: When Hipcampers search for a precise area (like a city), results are weighted based on their distance from that point. However, when Hipcampers search for results by moving the map and hitting “re-search this area” or clicking on county or region names, results are weighed more based on their distance from the centre of the map.
- Positive reviews and recommendations: As more Hipcampers stay and leave good reviews at your listing, your ranking will increase. Learn how recommendations work.
Please note that overall availability does not impact your ranking. This means that you can close your listing for the winter or when you go on vacation without the worry of dropping in the charts.
If your Directions section includes the correct address and location and your property is live, your property will appear in our search results and will be bookable by Hipcampers. If you have any questions about where your listing appears in our search results, feel free to get in touch with Hipcamp Support.
