As part of Leave No Trace, our Hipcampers are required to pack out what they pack in. However, if you want to set up a garbage receptacle, it may urge Hipcampers to Leave it Better than they found it. For signage options, check out the free Hipcamp Host Signage PDF.
🗑Garbage, Recycling, & Compost
Make it very clear where and how Hipcampers should dispose of their garbage, recycling and compost, or make it clear that they should pack it out with them. Both are fine!
Pro-tip: Show Hipcampers which items should be garbage vs recycling vs compost to ensure that everything ends up where you’d like it.
🚽Human Waste
All campsites listed on Hipcamp must have access to a toilet, whether provided by the Host or the Hipcamper.
If you choose to provide an indoor toilet or other permitted toilet (such as a porta-potty, composting toilet, etc.), the toilet must be onsite with unrestricted access to Hipcampers.
Hosts offering a sleeping structure must provide either a contracted portable toilet, a rustic toilet (composting toilet, pit toilet, flush toilet), or an advanced toilet (toilet with hand washing facilities); basic transportable camp toilets are not allowed.
If you are not able to provide a toilet onsite, Hipcampers must bring their own camp toilet.
