At Hipcamp, we want to make it as easy as possible for people to get outside. We’re very proud to be the first private company to integrate public data on federal campgrounds directly into our campsite booking platform, providing outdoor enthusiasts (that's you!) the most comprehensive catalogue of camping opportunities throughout the United States.
Finding public campgrounds in search
We have introduced Map Layers to show National & State Parks, BLM land, and public campgrounds.
To access layers, click on the Layers icon located on the search map. More info on search here.
From the pop-up, select the Public Campgrounds layer and hit Done.
You will see tent icons on the map to indicate there is a public campground. Click on the icon to view more information.
Checking availability and reserving a site
Public campgrounds -- those located within state and national parks -- are owned by the state or federal government are not yet bookable through Hipcamp.
If they are first come, first served they will not show an availability calendar or any booking options. You will instead see a link to view the site on the government website. See an example below.
If they are only bookable through the government website, the Listing page will give the option to check availability and get notified of availability. See an example below.
If the dates are available, you can click the Reserve button to be taken to the government website to make your reservation.
